We are just one Adventist Community Service (ACS) center among 1,250 locations across the North American Division of the Seventh-day Adventist church. In June 2010, following the tornado that tore through Lake Township, a ACS Disaster Response team was sent to our community to help individuals and families affected by the tragedy.
The Northwood Adventist Community Services (ACS) Center is sponsored locally by the Northwood Seventh-day Adventist church. A few years ago we began offering free bread to our local community. Soon we added a clothing program, followed by a small non-perishable food pantry, and last fall we added a free community supper program.
With the growth of these community programs we have outgrown the space dedicated to these services. Construction is underway for the addition of a Community Services Center to our church which will be completed in the 1st qtr. of 2019.
We receive our bread from the Panera Bread bakery-cafe located in Perrysburg. Our organization participates in Panera Bread’s Day-End Dough-Nation® program and we are very grateful for their support.
Donated bread from Panera is distributed every Thursday morning (9:00 am - 10:00 am) from our church fellowship hall. In addition we deliver to shut-ins and to other Toledo area shelters and food banks as noted below.
All of our programs are free.
Our pantry consist primarily of non-pershable food items. In the summer months we are able to furnish home-grown vegetables from member gardens on a limited basis.
We are currently in the process of expanding our food pantry program.
We obtain women's, men's and children's clothes from many sources including folks donating clothes to us when they pick up bread.
In addition we receive non-clothing items (household goods) on a periodic basis.
We offer Free Community Suppers on the 2nd Tuesday of every month from 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm. Please join us for a great meal and conversation with your neighbors and friends.
Last year we also offered a Thanksgiving Meal (on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving). We are continuing that tradition again this year on Wednesday November 21st, serving from 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm
We also support the following organizations in the Toledo area with our bread and clothing programs.
